The markets are up again today as investors try to end the week on a positive note. A bit of bad news today though as the Postal Service is urging Congress to allow them to layoff 120,000 workers and cut benefits to other workers. If they do go through with this it would raise the unemployment rate by 0.1%.

The major indices are in the green around the lunch hour, but have been trending lower after their morning highs. Stocks opened higher this morning after hopes of a new Greece aid package, but began falling after a surprising dip in consumer confidence in May. Washington Mutual Inc. (OTC:WAMUQ) is up over 26% at $0.1630 with an intraday high of $0.1637. WAMUQ has traded over 28 million shares so far today, over 3 times its average trading volume.

The stock market is trading flat today with very slim gains across the Dow and the S&P, and a slight loss for the Nasdaq. The housing market saw a bit of good news today as new home sales rose in April by 7%. Oil saw a jump today as Goldman Sachs raised its price forcasts for Brent crude. Goldman thinks that oil demand from economic growth will cut into stockpiles and OPEC spare capacity. Penny stocks saw a few movers with the main ones being VLCO and LYJN.
Valcom, Inc. (OTC:VLCO) is up over 100% in late trading at $0.04 with an intraday high of $0.0620. The company announced earlier today a huge quarterly profit for its second quarter. VLCO is up on big volume with over 60 million shares traded today. It will be interesting to see what happens with VLCO the rest of the week.
Lithium Exploration Group (OTCBB:LEXG) is up 14% at $2.58 with an intraday high of $2.72. LEXG has definitely lost its former luster but a lot of traders are still trading it daily.
