The stock market closed higher today thanks to better than expected jobs data. Initial claims for unemployment remained unchanged last week at 351,000, analysts were expecting it to rise to 354,000. It looks like the market may be due for a correction as it get near its former highs. Some analysts are calling for a major correction of up to 10%.

Penny stocks were active today with some stocks seeing good gains and other stocks falling even more. Former pumps NSRS and TKDN were hit hard today and lost 32% and 59% respectively.

Atrinsic, Inc. (OTC:ATRN) bounced back today after dropping the past few trading days. ATRN closed up 14.29% today at $0.24 and hit an intraday high of $0.2530. The stock saw heavy volume today with 20 million shares traded. Despite the recent sell off, ATRN is still up 400% this month.

Fannie Mae (OTCBB:FNMA) closed up 13.99% today at $0.3260. FNMA has traded 8.1 million shares so far today, well above its daily average of 5.9 million shares. Shares of FNMA bounced back today after dipping from $0.40 to less than $0.30 over the past week.

Communications Intelligence Corp. (OTCBB:CICI) finished the day up 25% at $0.10 with an intraday high of $0.11. CICI traded heavy volume today with 7 million shares traded. The stock trades about 170 thousand shares on an average trading day. Ebix, Inc. (NASDAQ:EBIX) announced a partnership with Communication Intelligence Corporation today.

The overall stock market is rallying today after a positive report on jobs this morning. The Labor Department said companies hired 243,000 people last month. This is the strongest in nine months. The hiring spree caused the unemployment rate to fall to 8.3%. The Dow, Nasdaq and S&P 500 are all up more than 1% today.

On the penny stock front, NSRS continues to go higher as it goes over a buck today. EKDKQ and ATRN are also posting decent gains this afternoon.

North Spring Resources (OTCBB:NSRS) is up 19.79% today at $1.15. NSRS has traded 17.8 million shares so far today and hit an intraday high of $1.20 earlier. NSRS released new footage from its Goldstar property exploration program showing rig operation and core sample preparation. NSRS also continues to be heavily pumped with internet newsletters. Who knows how long this will last.

Eastman Kodak Co (OTC:EKDKQ) is up 17.32% today at $0.4810. EKDKQ has traded 23.8 million shares in afternoon trading at hit an intraday high of $0.5190 this morning. These bankrupt stocks tend to have a lot of daytraders come in and out of them to make quick money. Be careful though, when the company comes out of bankruptcy these shares will be worthless. Same thing happened with Blockbuster last year.

Atrinsic, Inc. (OTC:ATRN) is up 21.67% today at $0.0730. ATRN has traded 15 million shares today and was as high as $0.0850 this morning. ATRN shares were down for most of the week after it hit a high of over $0.09 last week.

The stock market is trading flat today as no real news is pushing the markets one way or the other. In midday trading the Dow is up 1 point, the Nasdaq is up a half point and the S&P is down a half point.

Stocks have lost most of their morning gains today as Fitch’s warnings drag the market down. Fitch warned it will downgraded the credit ratings of Italy, Spain, Ireland, Belgium, Slovenia and Cyprus if there isn’t a “comprehensive solution” to Europe’s debt crisis. The Dow is down 3 points, the Nasdaq is up 15 points and the S&P is up 4 points with about two hours left in the trading day. [click to continue…]

Stocks are on the rise today after the Greek Parliament passed a new austerity plan. In a speech ahead of the vote, Prime Minister George Papandreou said “We must avoid the country’s collapse at all costs. Now is not the time to step back.” Bank of America (NYSE:BAC) saw gains of over 3% this morning after it reached a settlement with mortgage bond investors worth $8.5 billion. In penny stock land TLAG was the big mover with gains of over 1000% today.

Portage Resources (OTC:POTG) is up 20% after the company announced it signed a definitive agreement to acquire Linderos Property. POTG is currently trading at $1.15 with an intraday high of $1.22. POTG has been moving up since around the middle of June when it was trading at around $0.10. A slew of press releases has helped keep this rally going.

Shares of Total Apparel Group, Inc. (OTC:TLAG) are up 1300% at $0.02 with an intraday high of $0.0280. TLAG announced a partnership with Glamm Industries to develop and market SKECHERS Time Instruments. Nearly 20 million shares of TLAG have been traded so far today following this news.

Greenwood Gold Resources, Inc. (OTCBB:GGRI) is up over 140% at $0.1318 with an intraday high of $0.1450. GGRI has traded over 27 million shares so far today. GGRI started these big gains on Monday right before they released news.
