The entire market seems to be taking a breather today one day after the Dow rallied more than 200 points to close above 13,000. Stocks have turned negative this afternoon as the dollar surges. Financials saw a big move higher today after most major banks passed the Fed’s stress test on whether they would survive an economic downturn similar to 2008.

Goldman Sachs took a decent hit today after an op-ed ran from former executive, Greg Smith, ran in the New York Times. Smith said he was leaving the company because “the firm has veered so far from the place I joined right out of college that I can no longer in good conscience say that I identify with what it stands for.”

Penny stocks look they are also taking a bit of a break today. The only decent movers this afternoon are VPER and GDSM. SNPK continues to be pumped and is currently up on 1% this afternoon. These pumps can sometimes last a little while, but traders are going to want to see bigger moves than this or they will start selling.

Viper Networks Inc. (OTC:VPER) is up another 12.20% this afternoon at $0.0046. VPER hit an intraday high of $0.0056 earlier this morning and has traded nearly 66 million shares today. Viper Networks has jumped about 400% in the past 3 days.

Gold Coast Mining (OTC:GDSM) is up 36.36% today at $0.0105 with an intraday high of $0.0107. GDSM has traded 35 million shares so far today.

The market is showing no direction today as all the major indices are trading flat this afternoon. Stocks started the day higher, but quickly turned negative as Ben Bernanke met with Congress. The Dow is down 13 points today, the Nasdaq is down 8 points and the S&P 500 is down about 2 points.

Penny stocks are also slow today with only a couple of penny stocks making any big moves.

Medical Marijuana, Inc. (OTC:MJNA) is up 9.26% today at $0.0720. MJNA has traded 42.4 million shares so far today and usually trades about 2 million shares a day on average. MJNA is continuing its upward trend today after announcing financing agreement for up to $4 million with CannaBANK.

North Springs Resources (OTCBB:NSRS) is up 40% today at $0.1560. This former pump bounced today after taking a beating for more than a week now. This rally may not last though unless someone starts pumping it again. NSRS has traded 26.3 million shares this afternoon.

Atrinsic, Inc. (OTC:ATRN) is up 16.37% this afternoon at $0.2630. ATRN has been trading in the range of around $0.20 to $0.26 over the past week. The stock rallied nearly 600% earlier this month when it moved from $0.05 to around $0.30. ATRN has traded 8.1 million shares so far today.

Stocks are turning sharply lower this afternoon after a meeting between finance ministers of 17 euro zone countries to discuss Greece’s second bailout package was cancelled. Some of the stronger EU countries like the Netherlands and Germany want firmer assurances before giving up more money. The Dow is down 76 points, the Nasdaq is down 17 points and the S&P 500 is down 9 points.

It looks like NSRS may be finally done, so we can take a look at a few other penny stocks.

Cannabis Science Inc. (OTCBB:CBIS) is up 35.38% today at $0.0440. CBIS is up today after announcing the signing of multiple company acquisition and licensing deals. CBIS has traded 30.6 million shares so far today, above its daily average of 1.7 million shares. CBIS hit a high of $0.06 in January before falling back down to around $0.03 yesterday.

Solos Endoscopy Inc. (OTC:SNDY) is up 65.43% today at $0.0134. SNDY announced the retirement of 150 million common shares this morning. SNDY has traded 187 million shares so far today.

PeopleString Corp. (OTCBB:PLPE) is up 33.33% today at $0.20. PLPE hit an intraday high of $0.24 earlier today and has traded 6.9 million shares so far today. PLPE shares have jumped nearly $0.10 this past week.

The stock market is trading relatively flat today as everyone is getting back from holiday vacations. Big news came from Sears this morning after the company announced it will close 100 to 120 Kmart, Sears stores. The company cited poor holiday sales as the reason for the closures. The stock market started off well into the green again today following a positive jobs report and Europe appearing to move closer to solving their debt crisis. The Labor Department released the latest jobs report today and while the number of jobs added wasn’t very high at 120,000, the unemployment rate dropped from 9.0% to 8.6%. Investors also gained a little more confidence about the situation in Europe after reports came out saying the European Central Bank was getting ready to lend $270 billion to the International Monetary Fund to ease the debt crisis. Following all this news this morning the major indexes are all up about 1% right now. The Dow is up 108 points, the Nasdaq is up 29 points and the S&P is up 14 points.
