The National Federation of Independent Business said its index of small business optimism fell last month after seeing six months of steady gains. Wholesale businesses also reported that they restocked shelves at a slower pace.
All eyes will be on Alcoa this afternoon as it kicks off the start of earnings season. The Dow is down 180 points, the Nasdaq is down 47 points and the S&P 500 is down 22 points.

SEFE, Inc. (OTC:SEFE) is up 4.10% today at $1.27. SEFE has traded 2.9 million shares in midday trading, 7 times its daily average. SEFE announced today it is moving to new Science and Technology Center in Boulder, Colorado.
Cannabis Science, Inc. (OTC:CBIS) is down 16.90% today at $0.1180. CBIS shares have fallen more than $0.06 a share in the past week. CBIS has traded 13.8 million shares so far today.
HDS International Corp. (PINK:HDSI) has fallen 14.46% today at $0.0278. HDSI has traded 36.3 million shares so far today. HDSI shares are selling off today after bouncing about 200% in the past few days.
East Coast Diversified Corporation (OTC:ECDC) is up nearly 70% today at $0.0049. ECDC has traded 81.8 million shares so far today, way above its daily average of 138 thousand shares.

Stocks are plummeting today as investors react to a disappointing jobs report. Worries over the euro zone also continue to plague the markets. Investors were also disappointed as the Fed gave no indication of further quantitative easing.
U.S. payrolls rose less than expected in March with employers adding only 120,000 jobs, although the unemployment rate did fall to 8.2%. Many analysts are now worrying that the U.S. will be unable to help boost the global economy as Europe’s debt crisis continues and worries over a China economic hard landing persist.
Heading into midday trading the Dow is down 143 points, the Nasdaq is down 33.68 points and the S&P 500 is down 17 points.
Sunpeaks Ventures, Inc. (OTCBB:SNPK) is up 18.58% today at $1.34. SNPK shares continue to trend higher as the promotion campaign behind it continues. SNPK has been hit by a few major sell offs along the way though. This stock can drop 50% in one day very quickly so beginner traders should beware.
Herborium Group, Inc. (OTC:HBRM) is up 52.08% in midday trading at $0.0219. HBRM has traded 113 million shares so far today. HBRM shares have rallied 400% since last Monday. Herborium is set to make some type of announcement tomorrow after delaying it last week.
HDS International Corp. (OTC:HDSI) is up 44.83% today at $0.0210. HDSI has traded 36.1 million shares so far today. HDSI shares have bounced back some over the past two days after falling from $0.15 to nearly $0.01 last week.
AISystems, Inc. (OTCBB:ASYI) is up 71.05% today at $0.0065. ASYI has traded 23.9 million shares so far today, way above its daily average of 110 thousand shares.

The major indexes are up right now after being down earlier today. There has been a lot of news for investors to digest today including durable-goods orders going up and home prices declining. Durable goods orders were up 4% in July with the transportation sector responsible for most of that gain. Home prices continue to decline and saw a drop of nearly 6% in the second quarter.
There have been a good bit of penny stocks seeing gains today with EMBA, FCSC, NNAN and HDSI leading the way.
