The overall market is set to end the day mostly mixed as the market lacks any real direction. The Dow is down 9 points, the Nasdaq is up 5 points and the S&P 500 is up 1 point. The price of oil continues to rise today and is getting closer to $110 a barrel this afternoon. It looks like traders are wary of holding over the weekend after seeing gains earlier in the week.

Penny stocks have seen a lot of action and a lot of buzz today.

North Springs Resources (OTCBB:NSRS) is down 12.71% today at $0.2060. This old pump continues to dump after hitting a high of close to $2 earlier this month. NSRS has traded 44.2 million shares near the close. The stock traded about 59 million shares a day on average at the height of its pump.

America West Resources (OTCBB:AWSR) has been the most talked about stock today on the message boards. This stock rose about 300% yesterday after an email from Awesome Penny Stocks, the same group that pumped NSRS, picked this stock as their newest play. Everyone was raving about how this stock was going to go to the moon today. Well that all changed after the group sent out another email canceling the pick and said it was an error by their editor. This caused the stock to plummet from the previous close of $1.29 to a low of $0.50 today. AWSR is currently trading at $0.93.

Cannabis Science Inc. (OTCBB:CBIS) is up 9.63% at $0.0899. CBIS has traded 33.8 million shares so far today, well above its daily average of 1.7 million shares. Cannabis has jumped this week from about $0.04 to as high as $0.10.

Silver Falcon Mining, Inc. (OTC:SFMI) is up 28% at $0.14 with close to 2 million shares traded so far today. The company reported earlier this morning first time gold flows from War Eagle Mountain in over 100 years.

My Social Income, Inc. (OTC:MSOA) is up 12% at $0.0009 with an intraday high of $0.0014. The company announced this morning that they have secured Chase Consulting Group for a nationwide initiative. MSOA has traded over 80 million shares so far today, well above its daily average of 400 thousand shares.

The major indexes are all up nearly 1% today after IBM released a strong quarterly report. The company said that new business in its services division was higher than expected. The housing industry also received some good news today after housing starts topped forecasts in June. Future construction permits also saw an unexpected increase. Shares of Codima Inc. (OTC:CDMA) are up 30% today at $0.005 with an intraday high of $0.0075. CDMA has traded over 33 million shares in midday trading.

Digagogo Ventures Corp. (OTCBB:DOGO) is up 20% at $0.54 with an intraday high of $0.64. This increase comes after the company announced the opening of a corporate headquarters. DOGO has traded close to a million shares so far today.

Wall Street is taking a big hit today as investors continue to worry about the ongoing debt crisis in Europe and the U.S. There are now concerns that Europe’s debt crisis is spreading to larger countries including Italy and Spain. Meanwhile in the U.S., lawmakers are at an impasse in the debt ceiling talks raising fears that there might now be an agreement before the Aug. 2 deadline.

Shares of Cardio Infrared Technologies, Inc. (OTC:CDOI) are up 123% today at $0.0670 and were as high as $0.0710. CDOI has traded nearly 100 million shares with half the trading day left.

MultiCell Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB:MCET) is up 25% with over 70 million shares traded. MCET is trading at $0.0107 with an intraday high of $0.0150 following news that the company and University Health Network are evaluating two potential therapies for liver cancer treatment.

SavWatt USA, Inc. (OTCBB:SAVW) is up 46% today and has traded over 112 million shares with about 2 hours left in the trading day. SAVW is trading at its high of the day right now at $0.0057.

Smart Holdings, Inc, (OTC:SMHS) is up 150% today after the company sets date to launch drug sales program on National TV. SMHS is trading at $0.0080.

The overall stock market is dipping today as a poor outlook from HP and weak economic data weighs heavily on stocks. The housing market in particular took a big hit today as new home construction permits were down in April. Lithium Exploration Group (OTCBB:LEXG) is going higher for the third day in a row up 12% at $2.82 with an intraday high of $3.16. LEXG is having another big volume day with over 4.5 million shares traded with about an hour left in the trading day. The company released a PR this morning addressing shareholders and their strategic plan.

Smokefree Innotec, Inc. (OTC:SFIO) is having a big sell off today after it had its run up on news the past week or so. SFIO is down 31% at $0.0469 with an intraday low of $0.0382. SFIO is down on huge volume with over 73 million shares traded, well above its daily average of around 15 million shares.

Cono Italiano, Inc. (OTCBB:CNOZ) is up 7% at $0.14 with over 25 million shares traded. The stock was as high as $0.245 after the company announced it was featured on Food Network’s “Unwrapped” series.

Bad economic data is definitely keeping the broader markets negative today. With the coming end of QE2 and the looming debt ceiling fight it looks like traders will be taking incoming throughout the coming months. New jobless claims numbers came in higher than expected today reaching an 8 month high. This news caused oil to dive down more than 3 percent, which should relieve gas prices a little bit in the near future. The major indicies are taking a hit following this poor economic news. Freddie Mac (OTCBB:FMCC) is up 12% today at $0.484 with an intraday high of $0.542. FMCC released their 1Q results with a profit of $676 million and announced that they will not seek government aid. FMCC is trading more than double its daily average with over 17 million shares traded.

Jammin Java Corp. (OTCBB:JAMN) is up 6% at $3.18 with an intraday high of $3.20. Following a slight gap up this morning, JAMN is trading relatively flat with no clear move up or down. No recent news on JAMN.

Shares of Baristas Coffee Company (OTC:BCCI) are up nearly 60% in midday trading at $0.126 with an intraday high of $0.152. BCCI has started to move higher yesterday after the company announced a new location in Tacoma, Washington. BCCI has traded over 11 million shares so far today.

Overall the market took a hit early today after the poor economic data was released. Since then it has been trying to make up some of those early losses. LEXG continues to be the most popular stock right now.
